Day 13 - My Blogger Horror Stories

Welcome to Day 13 of Parajunkee’s Book Blogger’s New Year’s Challenge which I've decided to take part in to start the year off right.

Here are a couple of my more memorable horror stories:

When I got a review request for this book...: http://www.amazon.com/Twin-Soul-Became-Prostitute-Story-ebook/dp/B005M323GO The cover is horrifying and well doesn't really sound like my kind of read and I had to email the author twice to politely decline...

Then there was an anonymous comment on this review that really ticked me off: http://bibliognome1.blogspot.com/2011/11/ragged-rising.html

  1. Ugh, that book sounds horrible, and I definetely didn't like the cover. Good choice.

    1. Thanks yeah I thought the cover was really creepy and then there's the description of the book...That one was a definite no.

  2. Ha! "You need to think a little." He/She needs to "think a little" before he/she comments! I delete anonymous comments. If you won't leave your name (or at least a screen name) I'm not going to pay any attention. Thanks for visiting!

    1. Yes, as you can imagine my response in my mind was a lot different/much less polie then the one I typed back to them.

Yeah I probably should just delete them too but that one made me mad so I decided to reply back.

Thanks for stopping by here too.:)

  3. Oooh, yeah. I wrote a negative review about a Terry Brooks's novel once and a fan showed up on my blog and completely blasted me for not loving it. He's a fantasy legend. How could I possibly not adore every single word out of his mouth? Well, just because he's written great books before doesn't mean that THIS book will be great. It sucks, in fact.

But anyway...haha, I actually liked that book and the cover. I wouldn't worry too much about that comment. Sounds like a disgruntled fan.

Books are like jokes. If you have to explain them, you did something wrong.

    1. ^^^ The last part is what I would have said to that anonymous commenter.

    2. Exactly, love your comeback for the commenter :) because yeah I'm not happy when someone says I need to think a little/don't understand a book.

  4. Oh I HATE anon comments like that. Gah. LIke it's not obvious who made that comment.

    1. Yes they are super annoying and I'm always tempted to type back something mean to them but my polite side has won out so far.

Yeah I was like really why bother posting anonymously and talking down to me in the comment wasn't going to make me like the book any better...

  5. I'm sorry - but I'm laughing so hard a that review request cover.

I've had a few things like that and of course the anon comments. I kept getting them for the Fallen series for some reason. People kept insisting how nice LK is. lol

I guess it makes them feel better to make their point?? I don't know because it makes them look worse, especially when they won't use their name. (& I agree with that review btw)

Whatever - I just try to ignore and move on. Thankfully I haven't been in any real big kerfuffles :-)

    1. Yes, I almost died laughing when I saw that cover and then when I saw the description...

Yeah I might have had that problem too if I reviewed Fallen but thankfully I read the first book before I began blogging. :)

Thanks, I thought I was rather polite in the review with what I did say because that was one weird convoluted book.

I'm happy I've never been in any giant kerfluffles either and yeah I've noticed it's better to ignore and move on too.

  6. I cringe every time I get an email from an author insisting that I'd love his/her book if I only gave it a chance! That's one of the reasons I don't like declining review requests. :(

    1. Yeah, I don't like declining review requests either but I know I don't have time for them all. It can get awkward though if they keep insisting you read their book.

  7. That cover is one of the worst I've ever seen! And I'm almost positive that the author of the other book was "Anonymous". I hate that "Oh, well, if you only knew exactly what I was thinking at the time I was writing the novel, then you'd understand it for the major work of genius that it really is!". ;)

    1. Yes, that is definitely the worst cover I've seen, it's one of those that just makes you ask why!?!

Yes, I'm pretty sure that the author was indeed anonymous, I'm just glad it ended with one comment. Exactly my thinking too. :)

  8. Wow, that book is just...wow. I don't even know what to say. Oh my, it actually has 1 customer review!

    1. Exactly, I can't believe anybody tried to read it... The cover just makes you pause and then kind of laugh awkwardly.
