Weekend Read - I Want It That Way

I’ve liked what I’ve read of Aguirre’s other books so I knew I wanted to check this book out. I don’t usually like NA  (New Adult) books but it’s pretty great so far.

Start to the Holidays

Happy Thanksgiving to everybody that celebrates. :)

My family plans to get our dinner from Hy-Vee so there’ll be a lot less work than usual. Than later that day we’re off to the crazy shopping gauntlet that Walmart will be.

Review - Horrorstör

* Read via NetGalley for review

3 gnomes and a gnome hat out of 5 gnomes

Horrorstör is one creepy little book. I didn’t get the full effect of the looking like a catalog aspect of it because I read it on my phone. The parts that I could see of the formatting though were definitely good.

I’ve never been to an Ikea so I just kind of pictured Orsk like a giant Nebraska Furniture Mart. I have worked in retail before at Bath and Body Works (blargh) so I know how that feels at least and can relate to the characters.

Amy doesn’t exactly love her job to begin with and thinks she’s about to be fired. No though she’s asked to be at the store overnight to investigate what’s been going on.
This is of course when things get interesting.

This is definitely a scary story and one that's quick to read. You'll want to keep reading just to find out what exactly is going on.

There are some pretty great twists and turns in the story along with a little gory goodness. I really liked the ending and how Amy changed so much in the story.

Sentence Sneak Peek - Horrorstör

Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix

The first sentence from each chapter of Horrorstör, it's a mini summary of what you can expect to read.

* Spoilers are highlighted like so :)
* Received from NetGalley for review

“It was dawn, and the zombies were stumbling through the parking lot, streaming toward the massive beige box at the far end.”

“Amy crossed the café and passed through the doors leading to the back of house.”

“During the day, Orsk was a building like any other, a sensible container built with modern materials to house furniture and people.”

“Amy cut through the café toward the top of the escalator.”

“Okay,” said Matt, loading a backpack with EMF readers.”

“Basil was furious when Amy and Ruth Anne returned to the break room.”

“They found Basil and the others in Bedrooms, hiding behind a Drazel chest of drawers.”

“After they convinced Ruth Anne that what they were doing was not “satanic” in any way, shape, or form, the next big objection came from Amy.”

“Amy heard a distant click and her vision went black.”

“Amy tried scrambling away but the hands found her and they were all over her, hundreds of hands, dragging her from her hiding place, pulling her across the floor, smashing her into walls and furniture.”

“Hands.”

“Amy made herself as small as possible.”

“Amy didn’t stop running until she’d reached the center of the vast, orange-lit parking lot.”

“Somehow the corridor had narrowed since her last visit, and the smell of rancid rot filled Amy’s head.”

“Amy’s first instinct was to switch off her light, tuck her head under her arms like a little girl, and make them go away.”

“Finally the hammering stopped, leaving only a great silence.”

“The great gout of water slammed Amy to the sidewalk and then sent her spinning helplessly across the concrete, over the curb, and onto the rough asphalt of the parking lot.”

“Orsk did come up with an answer it could live with: a massive water main break, coupled with a complete malfunction of the sprinkler system.”

Awesomeness of the Week - Pokemon Omega Ruby

Pokemon is just so much fun and it’s probably one of the reasons why I like collecting things so much. I’m loving this new game especially the sneaking around part that lets you get pokemon with rare moves.

The Hunger Games Movie Marathon

Had a ton of fun at The Hunger Games Movie Marathon with my sister.

Got a cool lanyard, $5 gift card, and a cool Mockingjay keychain.

The giant popcorn and drink came in very handy because you get free refills.

We couldn’t resist the good deal on ice cream either. :)

Mockingjay was such a great movie, I really can’t wait to see the second part. This movie I think is one of those that’s definitely better than the book. The second half of the movie is going to be brutal though because none of the huge deaths happened yet. It even stopped just about where we guessed it would.

"Waiting On" Wednesday - Top Ten Clues You're Clueless

"Waiting On"  Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week I'm waiting on...

Top Ten Clues You're Clueless by Liz Czukas

* Book will be released December 09, 2014

Check out the description from Goodreads:

"Top Five Things That Are Ruining Chloe’s Day
5) Working the 6:30 a.m. shift at GoodFoods Market
4) Crashing a cart into a customer’s car right in front of her snarky coworker Sammi
3) Trying to rock the “drowned rat” look after being caught in a snowstorm
2) Making zero progress with her crush, Tyson (see #3)
1) Being accused—along with her fellow teenage employees—of stealing upwards of $10,000
Chloe would rather be anywhere than locked in work jail (aka the break room) with five of her coworkers . . . even if one of them is Tyson. But if they can band together to clear their names, what looks like a total disaster might just make Chloe’s list of Top Ten Best Moments."

This looks like a fun contemporary with a touch of mystery. Along with the grocery setting and being stuck in one room it should be interesting.

Question of the Day - How do you rate books when you liked everything except for how it ended?

Question of the Day - How do you rate books when you liked everything except for how it ended?

I tend to be really disappointed because a horrible ending really ruins what I’ve read before.

Review - Famous in Love

Spoilers are highlighted like so :)

2 gnomes out of 5 gnomes

Oh Famous in Love I was really liking what you had going on. You even had a believable love triangle and a heck of an interesting concept.

Your characters were fun and with all the YA movies being filmed lately it is fun to imagine what goes on behind the scenes. Where you really lost me though was that ending. What the actual heck was that, I mean blargh.

Paige, Rainer, and Jordan are all really interesting characters. I do like how the story initially unfolds. It really does feel like a behind the scenes look at a movie.

There’s a lot of angst but the characters really do grow over the course of the book, or at least I thought so until the end.

Basically she chooses to be with somebody to make him happy and not herself not to mention it was a bit awkward because he’s older and really using her. After everything she finds out I can’t believe she chose that way...

Top 5 Sundays - Characters You'd Wanna Cosplay! {Book, TV or Movie}

The factions would be fun to cosplay.

I love these characters so it'd be fun to cosplay as them.

My sister and I love cosplaying as Harry Potter characters, it's fun because all you need is an old graduation robe and a tie.

It would be awesome to make up a Groot costume.

I think I could pull off the whole black and white AC look.

Universal Alien Blog Tour Guest Post/Giveaway - Gini Koch

I adore Gini Koch’s Alien series. So of course I’m very happy to be part of the tour for the tenth book in the series, Universal Alien. Ten books might sound intimidating but I can’t recommend this series enough. It has tremendous world building, characters you’ll really find yourself caring about, and many moments that will make you actually laugh out loud. To celebrate the tenth book the blog tour is having top ten lists at each stop and a giveaway. Gini’s topic for this stop is, “Gini Koch’s Top Ten Albums to Play on Repeat.

Here’s Gini’s List: “Gini Koch’s Top Ten Albums to Play on Repeat 10. Saints of Los Angeles, Mötley Crüe
9. Pop Psychology, by The Neon Trees
8. Version 2.0, by Garbage
7. Stadium Arcadium, by The Red Hot Chili Peppers
6. The Truth About Love, by P!nk
5. Metallica (the Black Album), by Metallica
4. Folie a Deux, by Fall Out Boy
3. When the World Comes Down, by The All-American Rejects
2. Just Push Play, by Aerosmith
1. Get the Picture?, by Smashmouth”

Universal Alien will be released on December 2nd. Check out my review here.
Blurb for the book provided by the author:

"Being the wife of the Vice President isn’t easy. Especially when your talents lie in kicking butt and rocking out…

Jeff and Kitty Katt-Martini find out just how easy it is for the wife of the Vice President of the United States to unintentionally insult an ally. Now they have to smooth things over with the Australian Prime Minister, pronto, or risk creating an international incident the worldwide anti-alien coalitions will be able to use to force Jeff to resign and the A-Cs to leave the planet.

But before Kitty can make things worse, a cosmic congruence and a little help from some powerful beings shoves her into another world -- one where she’s been married to Charles Reynolds for years and aliens don’t exist. She’s also landed in the middle of a huge conspiracy and is marked for death…but at least that’s business as usual.

Kitty’s not the only one confused, because the Kitty from that world has taken her place in this one. Now Alpha Team and the Diplomatic Corps have to make sure that no one spots that there’s been a switch, while keeping World War III from happening. And they have to do so while keeping this new Kitty in line, because she has views about what to do and how to it, and time is running out.

Can both Kittys save their respective days before it’s too late to go home to the universes they belong to? Or will one Kitty decide to keep the other’s life…forever?"

Creative Collision aka when Universes Collide

* Book provided by the publisher for review.

5 out of 5 gnomes

This is such a great addition to the series and I think one of the best. It brings just about everybody together and answers one very important question, Who is the Mastermind?

That first chapter was insane and I knew this book was going to be special. Multiple Universes/Bizarro World = Always something I’m going to be interested in. I just love the whole multiverse angle. I do kind of hope that we see more of the multiverse in the future or maybe have somebody else switch places too.

Both worlds have their own kind of appeal and of course both Kitty’s are cool in different ways. They both really help each other out in their perspective worlds.

I like how we learn more about just how special Jamie is. That kid is going to have quite an interesting future. She’s already a force to be reckoned with and isn’t even five years old yet.

She meets so many interesting people in the alternate universe. I actually said “Awww” out loud when she ran into a certain someone that was important but hasn’t been mentioned in the books for awhile.

Overall there is so much greatness packed into this book. I cannot wait to see where the series goes from here.

* Random thoughts:
  • MASTERMIND!
  • I want Chuckie to find somebody great or at least be happier again.
  • I really need a mascot like Stripes in my life. :)

My Favorite Quotes/Lines - Universal Alien

* Spoilers are highlighted like so :)

“If I’m crazy, super, it’s a fun family excur-sion right before Mommy goes to the Special Hospital for a Little Vacation.”

“Let’s drug these creeps and then I’ll share the wonder that is me.”

“Then I guess I’d better do my best.”
He smiled. “Or, as we call it, routine.”

APPARENTLY IT TOOK LONGER to wake up from be-ing chloroformed than from being kicked in the head.”

“Why are you unhappy in elevators?”

“Did Armani win the Fashion Wars and those lines are all that’s left?”

“My God when did you become a Drama Llama?”

“Snap out of it, and that’s a damn order.”

“Hoped I’d heard enough of it so that I could practice and add it to my repertoire of Terrifying Vocal Inflections to Use on Evildoers.”

“Even when I have two mommies. You’re always the mommy who is my mommy.”

“Can you be brave enough to take a chance and deal with this world, only for a while?”

“Bitch is in the eyes of the beholder, baby.”

“Oh, blah, blah, blah. Let’s not and say we did, okay?” I was mad as hell, and just wasn’t going to take it anymore.”

“Basically, we looked like the best-dressed and best-looking invading army of penguins ever.”

“But, just so you know, this is how you flip someone off in American.” With that, I flipped him the bird. With both hands.”

“Wondered if they practiced that, or if Mom’s team here had just been the gold medalists in the Synchronized Neck Breaking competition.”

“...yowling the cat version of “yippee-ki-yay mofo” at the top of his cat lungs.”

“Nice to know we’re the entire galaxy’s dumping ground and experimental ant farm.”

“But I love you in all the multiverse, too. You are my precious one and I’m proud of you every single moment of every single day. Don’t ever forget that, for the rest of your life, whether you’re here or there.”

Top 5 Sundays - Characters With Which You Wanna Hang Out!

Characters With Which You Wanna Hang Out!

I would love to hang out with all of the characters in this magical world.

The Merrick brothers would be quite the group to hang out with.

Anna and her friends are always full of drama and you never know what you'd do next.

Who wouldn't want to hang out with the Doctor at least once?

All of the characters in this book would be awesome to hang out with because there's never a dull moment.
