Review and My Favorite Quotes/Lines - The Reaper Rescues the Genie

The Reaper Rescues the Genie by Kristen Painter

5 out of 5 gnomes

My 3 Word Short Review = I LOVE LUCY J

The Nocturne Falls series is always a lot of fun to read. This book though might just be my new favorite. It just has the superb combination of two lead characters that you really want to root for and a story that builds to a great conclusion. I mean who doesn’t want to know what happens when a reaper with uncontrollable powers finds someone that might just be the perfect match for him...

Lucien and Imari are a terrific pair. Reading both of their points of view is great and makes you want things to work out for them all the more.

I also adore Lucien and Hattie’s relationship and am  very happy with how things ended. The danger definitely feels real and the ending felt realistic (well realistic in a world where lots of paranormal stuff is real) and will let them both grow as characters.

My Favorite Quotes/Lines:

He wasn’t. He never would be. But even a reaper could dream.”

“Books were a great comfort to him. They helped him escape the pit of his life.”

“I, uh, might have also told her you were a stand-up guy.”

“His eyes narrowed. “My cars aren’t precious. Life is precious. Things can be replaced. Very little else matters.”

“Life and death, black and white, wrong and right. There were no shades of gray in his life. Just in his vision.”

“The grim reaper, the genie, and the ghost. What a trio they were.”

"Lucien blinked to make sure this wasn’t another mirage. It wasn’t. He let out a soft curse."

“I am Lucien Dupree, reaper of men’s souls, War Angel, Rider of the Pale Horse, and death’s own chosen emissary. Who are you?”

“Yes. That was never going to change. I’m a man of my word.”

“Massage is very soothing.” Sure it was. That’s why her lady parts were making wishes of their own."

“Be careful what you wish for.”

Review - Royals

Royals by Rachel Hawkins

*Received from First to Read for a Review (Used the points I’ve earned on the site to guarantee myself a copy of this one. J)

* Book will be released May 1, 2018

5 out of 5 gnomes

Why should you read Royals?

For lines like this of course:

“A little moment of understanding that feels weirdly nice, given that it comes from a guy who I’m not entirely convinced isn’t a tea cozy cursed by a witch to live as a real-life boy.”

I adore this book. The characters, settings, and relationships are a ton of fun. Royally awesome intrigue equals a read you won't want to let go of.

Daisy's sister is marrying into royalty and that leads to a plethora of problems. Paparazzi plus lots of royal drama leads to some trouble of course.

Daisy and her family are eminently entertaining then when you throw in some Scottish royalty things really take off. Her Dad especially is great and has quite a viewpoint.

This read is full of fluffy goodness and quotable quotes. Like a smile in book form (as corny as that sounds.) You think you know where the story is going but then theree are plenty of surprises too.

Read this book ASAP if you want to laugh and love a book at the same time. This is a book that will definitely make you snort laugh in public.

Review and My Favorite Quotes/Lines - Hot and Badgered

Hot and Badgered by Shelly Laurenston

5/5 gnomes

Wow, I have never read this author before but after seeing a review online, I thought why now check it out. This book was exactly what I needed, actually laugh out loud funny and characters that are great to root for. I should have known I'd adore this book when books have weird or punny titles, I usually like them more often than not.

I love a good book about shifters and this is definitely a great book about shifters. The world is set up really well and I like how all the different groups are explained and the many different habits they all have. Then there are the very interesting hybrids that are seen including the main character Charlie and her sister Stevie. Imaging all the different hybrids and what they could be capable of really makes you think.

Family plays a giant role in this book. The sisters and the triplets that they meet along with the other shifter families are crazy entertaining.

The story had me hooked from the beginning when you first see the sisters as children (talk about intense but it does really help set up the rest of the book.)

My Favorite Quotes/Lines

* Spoilers are highlighted like so J

“Female grizzlies were the most feared among the shifters. Not only were they psychotically protective of those they considered family—blood or otherwise—they were, like the males, easily startled.”

“No, sweetie. It was just a honey badger thing to say. Nothing to worry about. I say honey badger things all the time but never do them.”

“A Charlie warning was serious stuff, and you ignored it at your own peril.”

“Stevie! Stevie!” When her sister didn’t respond, Charlie released her and threw up her hands. “I’ve killed her. Of course I’ve killed her. I knew one day I’d kill you all.”

“Oh, trust me,” Charlie admitted. “We are such freaks.”

“A dripping honeycomb was in her hand and hundreds of angry bees were hanging from her face like some bizarre tribal mask.”

“You stray-dog this, Berg. You stray-dog this!”

“I mean, if they’re going to use us as an object lesson . . . maybe it’s time we make a lesson of them.”

“Max had poor Stevie in a chokehold and was telling her, “Sleep. Just go to sleep. Shhhhhh.”

“I didn’t thank you yet,” she reminded him. “And keep that attitude going, I may never.”

“That’s because you’re you.”

“Sweetie, you don’t do coquettish well, so stop that.”

“And when he cuts your heart out, I will dine on it with a good Scottish ale, you worthless son of a bitch!”

“Well, most shifter guys aren’t making the move.” “Why not?” “We like our faces attached to us rather than on the floor . . . in front of us.”

“Charlie, if you are feeling moody and need to bake, there are, um, requests here.” “Requests?”

“The MacKilligan sisters didn’t know how not to make an impression.”

Bitch, get off my coffee table,” Britta said as she passed through the living room.

“Max grinned. “But I’m a happy psychotic!”

“Well, she hated you before,” Stevie explained. “Now her hate is just enhanced.”

“Not to be rude but if either of you find a man . . . you need to hold that man.”

“Such poor decision making.”

Review and My Favorite Quotes/Lines - Letters to the Lost

Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer

5 out of 5 gnomes

So many feelings. I came to this series a little bit backwards I read the 2nd book 1st and fell in love with the characters. Then I figured out this book was first and knew I wanted to read it ASAP.

Kemmerer is pretty much a genius at writing books that stick with you and are hard to put down. I once again stayed up much later than I meant to just to finish this book.

The friendships and family dynamics are just so well done.

Declan and Juliet will most definitely make you Feel for them and root for them all at the same time.

The letter writing and twists make for a heck of a great read.

My Favorite Quotes/Lines:

* Spoilers are highlighted like so :)

“Also ironic, because Rev is about as aggressive as an old golden retriever.”

“This is one of the things I love best about Rev. He’ll never force anything on anyone. I nod.”

“No hesitation. This is one of the reasons why I love him.”

“One day isn’t your whole life, Murph.” He waits until I look at him. “A day is just a day.”

“Every moment is meaningful.”

“In other words, life has a solid right hook, but it’s not going to take me down.”

“I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”

“You wore your seat belt.”

“If fate were a person, I’d punch her in the face.”

“RF: I’m here. DM: Can I come over? RF: Always.”

“And right there, in the middle of his own crisis, Rev knows exactly what I need to hear. This is why he’s the perfect friend. And why I can’t wrap my head around him thinking he could ever hurt anyone.”

“Just because someone isn’t risking their life doesn’t mean their life’s work is . . . pointless.”

“We were wrong,” she says. “You make your own path.”

“For a tenth of a second, I think about running him over. Okay, maybe a full second."

“One who has unreliable friends may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.’”
