4 out of 5 gnomes
This is a really great start to a series. Ciel is an adaptor and not in the way that means she can adapt well to things. She is actually able to adapt into an exact replica of someone by using their aura. She doesn’t have their memories or anything, just their exact likenesses.
Being an adaptor sounds pretty insane but I think Ciel has found the best way to use her powers. She is a facilitator for her clients when they don’t want to do things personally. You just know that people really would pay a lot of money to get out of a boring task or to have someone else do their dirty work.
She seems to be great at what she does but her family and a love interest tend to see her more as the child or younger sister instead of a more capable person. This is a running problem for her throughout the book and she has to work hard to prove herself to others.
Ciel hasn’t had any luck in her love life. It’s really complicated between her and two guys in her life and well it looks at one point like maybe she was going to make a very bad decision and end up with a completely different guy. I know the whole thing sounds a bit like the same old same old but it’s all kind of a delightful mess which makes the ending even better.
Ciel’s family seems pretty darn awesome. We meet some of the family but I really want to know more about them and if we’ll ever meet her mother. Her mother sounds like a force to be reckoned with and I bet a whole gathering of adaptors would be really interesting.
The villains in the story are kind of ridiculous but fun, you’re going to have to just go with the story a bit on this one to believe that these villains could exist. If you can suspend your disbelief though you may really love these villains and their crazy plan.
I love the surprising ending because it resolves the love triangle that was going on. I really like who it looks like she’ll end up with too because they make a great pair. Anytime a love triangle is resolved ASAP it makes for, I think a much stronger story. I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here.
