Day 7: Top Ten Book Blogger Pet Peeves

Welcome to Day 7 of Parajunkee’s Book Blogger’s New Year’s Challenge which I've decided to take part in to start the year off right.

Top 10 Book Blogger Pet Peeves:
Here are my pet peeves, they're kind of a mixture between things that bother me about blogging and about the books I blog about.

Novellas - especially when you have to pay for them. It irks me because I feel like I have to know everything about a series and have to pay for them or I end up feeling bad that I don't know what was in the novella.

Drama - whether it's from book bloggers or authors (nobody needs that.)

Bad Review Requests - no I do not want to review eye glasses (did you not read/even look at my blog before you sent this request.)

Book Cover Changes - because I buy a lot of books and have actually bought a book that I'd already read before because the cover changed.

Bad Love Triangles - If you're going to have a love triangle make it at least surprising who the main character picks.

Captcha - NOOOOO, don't make it so hard to leave comments on your blog.

Predictable Plot - It can be good at times to have a familiar read but other times I want something new in what I'm reading.

Cliffhanger Endings - the kind that make you want to pull out your hair because the next book is over a year away.

Weird Names - names with weird pronunciations aka Hermione from Harry Potter I know I liked my pronunciation better.

Always Positive Reviews - I know everyone has their own styles but if all I read on your blog for every book is 5 out of 5 stars, then it starts to look suspicious or like well that you like everything or don't have an opinion.

  1. Haha, those authors who ask you for reviews without even having a clue about you. I'm still new, but it happened to me too. There's even this author who 1) asked me for an review in one of the few genres I don't like (fantasy); 2) tried to become my friend on Goodreads with the same purpose...

I make a point of avoiding cliffhangers...I usually only buy a book when all its sequels are out! ;D

Ah, names. Not only those you are not sure how to spell. I saw a book whose main character is named Nearly. Who would name their child Nearly?!? I love different names, but this is ridiculous...

    1. Yes random product review ones always throw me I'm usually thinking you know this is a book review blog right???

I should do that to avoid cliffhangers but I don't really have the patience to wait that long. :)

Yes there have been some special names in some of the books I've read but wow Nearly now that's a horrible/easy to make fun of name.

      Thanks for stopping by. :)

  2. Oh I hate book cover changes! They really annoy me too! Surely it makes more sense to have one universal cover of a book so that people immediately recognise it? Maybe publishers only do these things to trick us book lovers into buying multiple copies...

    1. Exactly, they should want to be recognizable everywhere (you would think so anyway.) Yes, and sadly I know I've bought multiple copies more than once.

  3. I'm really starting to hate cliffhangers. Some of them are ok but it seems like it's become a trend in authors. It makes me feel like their just lazy and can't come up with an ending.

    1. Yeah, it can start to feel that way, it's like if you're not sure how to end just end before that or make a standalone book. :)

  4. Everything is a series now so we HAVE to have cliffhangers. Sometimes I don't mind being slow to pick up the latest reading fads. I was a bit behind the times on picking up the Lunar Chronicles, but I don't have to wait nearly as long for Cress as others have. :)

I've also been able to get good deals on the recent trilogy releases by waiting for till the final book comes out and a boxed set is released. I got the Divergent series (3 hardbacks) for $26.00.

    1. Yes and with how some series choose to end I've been looking for standalone books to read and sometimes dread starting a series.

It probably is a good idea just to wait and buy the whole series but alas I don't have the best patience. :)

  5. The dreaded cliffhanger. Good one. I think a book should at least tie up the main plot. There are ways to make us want to read the next one without stopping in the MIDDLE of the story and giving us no closure. Hate that. Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Yes, that's exactly why I hate cliffhangers. I love when the story in one book ends and then the next book feels new. Thanks for commenting back. :)

  6. Great list of peeves! The always positive reviews bother me too! I get that some people only review books that they like, but not every book is a 5 star read! I think that a 5 star book should be special, but sometimes feel like I'm in the minority.

    1. Thanks :) Yeah I think that there is such a thing as being too positive because then there's nothing to emphasize/it's harder to tell if they truly love a book.
