I kiss Mom’s piano goodbye, finish closing it up with the gentleness of someone laying a baby down to sleep, and hurry out of the flicker-lit halls of E-Z-Store and out to my car.”

The office is full of fog and black air.”

I watch, poised with sketchpad on my lap, from the top of an overlooking hill as the wrecking ball arcs through the sky and crumbles the charred walls of Ghost Town to the ground.”

But Mom doesn’t come home.”

On the other side of chaos is order.”
