Recommend A...Book By a Debut Author

Shanyn from Chick Loves Lit came up with this awesome feature for Mondays.

Shanyn says, "“Recommend A…” will have a new prompt every week, which I will have posted ahead of time on the Recommend A… page.   All you have to do is Recommend with me on Mondays, following the prompt, and link me so I (and everyone else) can see what you’ve recommended!"

This week I Recommend A...Book By a Debut Author

Check out the description from Goodreads:

"Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.

Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered—in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the captain of the Queen's Guard, the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs. While they begin to uncover hints of a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect her own secret, the secret behind her musical gift, one so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.

In her exquisitely written fantasy debut, Rachel Hartman creates a rich, complex, and utterly original world. Seraphina's tortuous journey to self-acceptance is one readers will remember long after they've turned the final page."

I seriously adored this book, it's just so different.  The dragons in this book are really intriguing because you get to see how their society interacts with others and how alien they are compared to regular people.  Peace between humans and sars/dragons isn't exactly easy but many try to follow the truce.  Seraphina is stuck in the middle and at war with herself and how society would see her.  A superb mix of fantasy and some very unique characters.  Definitely a must read book and author.

    1. Nice, you should check it out, it's such a great story (the world building and take on dragons are really cool). Yeah it starts a bit slow but it's definitely one of my favorite books of the year so far. :)

  6. I love, love, LOVE this book. Ever since I finished reading it, Seraphina has been dominating most of my book discussions. The dragons, I think, are fascinating, and Orma and Eskar are definite favorites. I'm really excited for book two!
