Audiobook Awesomeness

I’m finally realizing why people love audiobooks so much, the audiobooks I tried before couldn’t keep my attention/had boring readers. Recently I’ve had a really great listening/reading streak.

I recently finished Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson. I had already read the book but it’s even more hilarious in audio form because it’s read by the author.  Hearing about everything really does differ/change they way that you look a the book.

I just started listening to The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan.  I adore the Percy Jackson books and have been wanting to start this series for a long time. I figured why not try the audiobook instead.  This book has a great reader and I’ve been pulled right into the story.  I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to read it.

  1. I was skeptical of audiobooks until I started listening to them about seven years ago, and I never stopped. They're so amazing! If you get the right narrator and a good story, it makes for a great reading experience. So glad you've discovered the joy of them! :) I haven't listened to these two, but the first one sounds right up my alley. I'll check it out.

Also, check out the Audiobook Jukebox website for some recs and review opportunities.

    1. Thanks for stopping by :)

Yeah I had a couple of bad experiences with audio books and gave them up for awhile but these books really made me think again/try audiobooks again. Listening is vastly different from reading but I do love that you can do two things at once driving and listening.

You should definitely listen to the first book, it's hilarious.

  2. A good reader can make all the difference when it comes to audiobooks.

I actually enjoy the Phryne Fisher mysteries (free-spirited lady detective in 1920's Australia) by Kerry Greenwood more on audio than in print, I think cuz of getting to hear accents.

I found I really like listening to books intended for middle readers (tweens) - the length and flow work well for listening. Audiobooks are a great way to revisit childhood favorites too.

And of course, always check to see what your library has available for checkout/download before buying!

    1. That's so true, I stopped listening to audiobooks because I had a couple with really bad readers.

Hearing accents does help you feel like you get to know the characters better and of course differentiate between all the different characters.

I'll have to try a middle grade audiobook, I bet it would make for a good read.

Oh yeah, don't worry about that I work in a library and make sure to request all my audiobooks and a lot of the regular books from the libraries around here. :)
