Super Storybook

Ever After High: The Storybook of Legends by Shannon Hale

5 out of 5 gnomes

This book is so much fun, it's definitely a Middle Grade book that I would recommend to anybody that loves fairy tales. The whole premise of the series is pretty great. This book has all the kids of famous fairy tale characters going to school to learn/agree to take over the role of their parent in the story so the cycle can continue.

Raven, the daughter of the evil queen from the Snow White story hasn’t exactly had an easy life. Her mom overstepped the bounds of her story and is the most evil queen that their world has known. She’s not antisocial like you think she would be either, Raven seems to take after her dad. I like all of Raven’s friends especially Maddie, the daughter of the Mad Hatter.

Maddie and all her Wonderland customs are awesome. Her sense of style is very different and the whole speaking in riddlish every now and then leads to some helpful parts in the stories. She also changes the structure of the book in an intriguing way.

Apple White, the other half of the Snow White story is really a leader at school. Everyone looks up to her and says how beautiful she is. She wants to be known for her smarts too though and is looking forward to being a ruler. Apple can't wait to start her story.

There are plenty of challenges as each character has to come to terms with their destiny/legacy for the future. Raven might not be the only character out there with secrets and questions about what is right.

I can't wait to see where the story goes from here. The end of the book foreshadows some suitably evil problems for the next book in the series.
