Warring Waves

4 out of 5 tiara wearing bats

This is an interesting story, not something that would normally catch my attention but I’m happy I listened to it.

It’s neat how they do the waves in steps and how it leads to a larger plan.

The flipping between characters is done really well. I like how all the points of view tie together.  It’s neat how if you pay attention in one perspective you may see some foreshadowing for future parts of the story.

I love the female reader and some of the delivery with the lines that character has. This is a fun book to listen to but make sure you’re not in a public place because it will prompt inappropriate laughter.

Alarming Adventure

Doll Bones by Holly Black

4 out of 5 tiara wearing bats

This book is a fun read although surprisingly dark and creepy.  Despite being obviously written for its age level it’s still enjoyable to an older crowd.

The characters are surprisingly in depth and easy to connect with.  Poppy with her determined little self is my favorite character.

My favorite parts in the whole book of the book are the times when the queen expresses herself.

If you’re looking for an easy but fun in a slightly dark way read this is definitely a book worth a second look.

Poppy's Promenade

Poppy by Riana Lucas

* ARC provided by the author for review

4 out 5 tiara wearing bats

Nice read.  Short and sweet book that is great to read in little spurts because it keeps you coming back for more.  My only complaints would be that there is a slightly slow start and things are a little predictable from time to time.  Once you get a bit farther into it though the story really picks up.  And although you may figure out some of the big reveals ahead of time, it is still fun to see the interesting ways that they do them.

Reed is easily my favorite character.  I love his personality and the fact that he’s able to bring up a playful nature even in the stuck-up Poppy. His sense of humor makes me think of a lot of different people that I know, he’s easy to relate to.

Most of the characters have a wonderful depth to them and they really seem to come off the page.  The set up of the Fae realm is very interesting too.  I like the magic that the fae use.  It is well done and gives wonderful descriptions that help you picture it.

Seeing the change in Poppy as the story progresses keeps you pulled into the story.  The cliffhanger ending had me cursing at the book and jumping to read the next which will be reviewed here soon (especially since I’ve read the first three books in the series (hope it’s not a trilogy because if it is I’m pissed.)

Diplomatic Debut

Alien Diplomacy by Gini Koch

* spoilers highlighted like so :)

Bibliognome Rating - 4 gnomes and a gnome hat out of 5 gnomes
Tiny Reverse Vampire Rating - 4 out of 5 tiara wearing bats

This series continues to be awesome because you never know what's going to happen next.  There are still plenty of laugh out loud moments and thinking outside the box.

Washington D.C. itself is like a character in the book, one that Kitty really hates.  The biggest fugly of all and this one she can't shoot.  I’ve never been to the desert but the way Kitty describes it makes me start to contemplate what it would be like.  She makes it sound a whole heck of a lot better then Washington.

The theme of this installment seems to be change and how it’s not exactly easy.  Everyone is unsure of their new roles and not sure that they are any good at their new responsibilities.  Kitty just doesn’t get the intricacies of being a diplomat at first.

Also I continue to enjoy how Richard interacts with Kitty especially when he asks whether it’s catsuit time.  Together they just make for an extremely interesting and entertaining team.  They have some awesome teamwork  skills and chemistry (enough to make Jeff jealous anyway). White can follow her train of thought very well and is much  better at knowing her plans
following the Kittyisms.  I like the rest of the team also aka Martini as the Hulk, Christopher as the Flash and Chuckie, her very own Batman.

Gini Koch is extremely adept at weaving in new characters to the story and making it feel like they’ve belonged there all along.  I liked that some characters from Vegas were reintroduced
frat boy bodyguards.  Also it’s great how good of a judge of character Jamie is gotta love her timing too. May I also say how awesome Mr. Joel Oliver is, I hope he’s involved even more in the next book because it feels like he’s quite the important contact to have.

As Kitty has said many times Jamie is indeed a good baby since I’m pretty sure most of Alpha Team and beyond would be dead without her intervention.  I have a feeling that Jamie is going to be kind of like the ringleader for this new bonanza of babies being born.
I wonder what other powers will surface with the hybrids.

The teaser for the next book leaves me with so many freaking questions like what did Kitty do and why oh why are they back in Florida.  I can’t wait for the next installment in this truly unputdownable series.  Want it, want it now.
