Comics to Check Out: Star Trek

I love Star Trek and was pretty much raised on Star Trek: The Next Generation and a lot of the movies. I saw this comic on a best of 2016 list and knew I had to read it. I haven’t read the previous 58 comics but #59 and #60 really hold their own and feel like a stand alone story. It takes the old and the brand new and blends it all together very well.

My Favorite Quotes/Lines - Alien Nation

Alien Nation by Gini Koch

* Read via NetGalley for Review

“Meaning, don’t ignore me, or the smartest guy in the room, when we tell you that we’d better be prepared for anything and everything to backfire right into our faces.”

“Amazing. I’d been testing out my Talk To The Hand gesture, and prior to my being made the First Lady it had had no real effect.”

“I’m fond of the Borg ship myself,” Siler said, indicating our fifth entry, which was a cube.”

“It’s always time for sarcasm, as you know. You feeling alright?”

“...so who was I to question the possibilities in our vast multiverse?”

“I just worry,” Christopher grumbled softly.”

“Never let it be said that my boys are slow or stupid.”

“Yes, I’m fine. And it wasn’t my fault.” “It’s never your fault.”

“We don’t leave our friends and family behind.”

“We want to be sure before we bite.”

“It has been said that you have understanding beyond others.”

“Not that I’m not thrilled to see you and relive some of our nostalgic moments and all that.”

“I’m here because, as usual, I didn’t want to watch my wife die. I know it’s a terrible failing, but I’ve learned to live with it.”

“But mainly because I really want him to meet Muddy. I think I’ve just found Richard’s new best friend.”

“I just take those marriage vows to always make you happy seriously.”

“I hate being so transparent.” It’s worse to be evil. Just saying.”

“And you say that I’m the one who can’t lie.”

“I don’t care about the rest of the world if you’re not in it.”

“Yes, Becky is very special. All the children in the Embassy Daycare are special in some way.”

“But I sure had new things to worry about, which was nice, since I didn’t have enough of that going on right now.”

“The galaxy has taken notice of Earth.”

“And Kitty is still ACE’s most beloved penguin.”

“Kitty protects those who need it, even if they are not Kitty’s friends….”

“While we plot and plan, may I suggest the cucumber sandwiches? They are truly excellent.”

“Okay, everyone. Let’s channel all our basic human nastiness and use it for galactic good.”

“Oh, you know, same politicians, terrorists, and crackpots, different day.”

“You continue to rock above all others, Mister White.”

“You’re right, Uncle Richard. The dead watch over us.” She pulled herself up straight. “And we avenge our dead…”

“I was Code Name: First Lady and I did the saving.”

“Well then, we’re going to do what’s always worked. We’re going with the crazy.”

“If we can’t have fun with our jobs, why would we want to do them?”

“I think you need to have a snack and a nap.”

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Yes, I believe that is the one truth that actually matters.”

“And none of it matters unless you’re doing the best you can, for the most people you can, as frequently as you can.”

Review - Alien Nation

Alien Nation by Gini Koch

* Read via NetGalley for Review

5 out of 5 gnomes

This series never gets old, I think I love it more with each new book. If you think you know what’s going to happen next prepare to be surprised. Even after all of these books the reader is always presented with something new.

There are some big showdowns in this book and at least one big question/problem gets solved. Until the next major problem of course. Things look like they end in a really good place though. Which now that I think about it probably means there’s going to be even more trouble in the next book.

The title of the book is Alien Nation and trust me you get to see a plethora of new aliens. My favorite new alien is named Muddy and I look forward to learning even more about him and his people.

The characters are all written so well so you really care what happens to all of them. Take all the various hyrbid children, I foresee some crazy stuff in their future and am looking forward to seeing what exactly they can all do.

There are plenty of Aww moments along with a lot of Oh Carp moments because that’s what keeps things very exciting.

This book brings a massive change to the world and I cannot wait to see where the story goes now. Plus there is plenty of potential for the future.

My Life as a Fictional Librarian - Story Time

Hello and welcome to Story Time. I'll start the story and then let's see how long the story can keep going with your help:

Rules
1.) Only write 1 to 2 sentences
2.) Keep it clean
3.) Have fun and spread the word so the story grows

My Life as a Fictional Librarian

All was pretty normal until things started to get a little bit fictional. I know sounds like a tagline for a bad romantic comedy or action movie, but believe me this is no normal library.

I had of course heard of special libraries but this was a special squared kind of library.

I was working the night shift again. I thought it would be a quiet night but no nothing at this job has gone like I thought it would. It was around nine o’clock and I hadn’t seen any patrons for quite a while. That’s when I heard a loud thumping sound from the shelves...

Recommendation for your To Be Read List

A book you should put on your To Read List ASAP:

Release Date: March 28, 2017

Bull by David Elliott

I read this one early via NetGalley so will have the review up closer to the release date. A very quick read and if you love Greek mythology or retellings then check this out. It’s written in verse so the whole thing is pretty musical like too. It was just such a refreshing read and unlike a lot of other books that I’ve read.

Review - Miss Frost Saves the Sandman

Miss Frost Saves the Sandman by Kristen Painter

My Favorite Quotes/Lines:

“Princesses don’t punch people in public. Princesses don’t punch people in public. Princesses don’t—”

“And doughnuts and coffee make everything better.”

4 gnomes out of 5 gnomes

This was a great book that really upped the stakes for Jayne. I love how she’s grown as a character and after the ending of this one am really looking forward to the next book.

A big plus in my opinion was that the love triangle was featured a lot less in this book. Either that or it was just written better into this story. One good thing is that both guys are starting to grow on me more and now I’m kind of worried that this means one of them will totally die or something.

The best part of this book had to be the introduction of a new rather scary type of monster and finding out a tad bit more about elementals. Saying that though I really really want to know more about this newish character’s story and much more about the elementals.

I loved how in control Jayne was here. You could tell she used her background more and was going to get things done.

The danger was elevated here and it really made the story fly by and then the end of the book shows that there will definitely be trouble ahead.
