EARTHBOUND Tour Stop

I'm very excited to be a tour stop for Earthbound so hopefully you enjoy today's post:

"We pretty much can’t WAIT for everyone to read Aprilynne Pike’s latest book, Earthbound. To celebrate the start of a brand new saga, follow along the Earthbound blog tour to find out inside scoop from Aprilynne. We’ll also reveal an image from our beautiful Earthbound fortune-video (yes, it’s a thing) at each stop. Follow us all the way to the end, when we’ll reveal the full video on the Penguin Teen Tumblr!

Ah, love triangles. All of Razorbill’s marketing materials have this line: “…a love triangle like you’ve never seen before.” No pressure or anything, right? I get a lot of questions about my love triangle because I promised readers at the end of Destined that I was not going to write a love triangle in my next series. That I was going to write about two people who loved each other and no one else. And that’s what I intended to do! I tried!

It just . . . didn’t happen. So the love triangle that was never supposed to be, is now like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

I confess, it’s a triangle between Tavia, a hot guy, and a particularly luscious cheese Danish! Take that!

No, not really. It’s hard to talk about the love triangle too much without giving a lot away but, well, it’s a triangle between Tavia, a hot guy, and someone who doesn’t . . . exist. Except that he does. But not in the way Tavia thinks he does.

Hmmm, none of that is helpful, is it?

How about a vague story instead. There are two characters Tavia is involved with and one of them was set up in the best friend role. Now, I always hung out with guys in high school so it honestly did not occur to me that this best friend maybe should be a girl. But I had promised readers that I would not have a love triangle this time, so even though he was a guy, I kept any sense of romance out of their relationship.

But somehow sexual tension kept creeping in anyway.

So when my editor emailed and said she wanted to call and discuss what to do with this character, I knew, I just KNEW what the solution was!! To make him a girl! I even started on the revision so I could talk to my editor about how the changes would affect the scenes. I did not expect what she actually suggested. That I make him a full-blown love interest.

I think my exact response was, “Like, with kissing?” Go me.

But you know what? She was right! And the reason the romantic tension kept creeping in was that I was already in love with him! I just had to make Tavia fall in love with him too. Best. Revision. Ever. Just sayin’.

So yes, now I have a love triangle, even though I didn’t mean to. And it’s . . . it’s a little different. But I hope you’ll like it and I hope you’ll forgive me! I swear my next book does not have a love triangle!!!

Or does it?:)

ABOUT EARTHBOUND:

#1 New York Times bestselling author Aprilynne Pike has created a heart-stopping romance built on a love triangle like you’ve never seen before and filled with epic stakes and a centuries-long conspiracy. Give it to fans of Beautiful Creatures and Nightshade.

Tavia Michaels is the sole survivor of the plane crash that killed her parents. When she starts to see strange visions of a boy she’s never spoken with in real life, she begins to suspect that there’s much about her past that she isn’t being told.
Tavia immediately searches for answers, desperate to determine why she feels so drawn to a boy she hardly knows. But when Tavia discovers that the aunt and uncle who took her in after her parents' death may have actually been responsible for the plane crash that killed them--and that she may have been the true intended victim--she flees for the safety of Camden, Maine, where the boy she sees in her visions instructs her to go.
Now, Tavia is on the run with no one to trust. No one, that is, except for her best friend and longtime crush, Benson.

Tavia feels torn between the boy who mysteriously comes to her at night and the boy who has been by her side every step of the way. But what Tavia doesn't know is that the world is literally falling apart and that to save it she will have to unite with the boy in her visions. Only problem? To do so would mean rejecting Benson's love. And that's the one thing Tavia Michaels swore she'd never do.
