4 gnomes out of 5 gnomes
Now this, this is a fun Middle Grade read. It kind of reads like a twist between a fairy tale and a fable.
Merryn is a great character and I love how strong she is, this girl knows how to get things done. Her father goes missing and she knows she has to save him. I like how her inventing skills save the day and how the whole submarine comes together.
She finds out that her father’s stories might be a lot more real than she imagined. There are a lot of fantastical aspects to it all but that’s where the fun and adventure really begins.
The illustrations really help the story shine, they kind of give the book an old-timey type of feeling. All these fantastical creatures and the environment make it so you never know what’s going to happen next.
This story is full of exciting characters and adventures and I know I can’t wait to play the video game that’s based on this book. The ending is strong and will make you want to explore more of this world.
